Ministry Purpose & Description
- The Ushers and Greeters at St. Lucy Church are called to be Ministers of Hospitality. We are enthusiastic to promote a sense of welcoming and belonging to our guests and to all the faithful assembled for worship. We are the first point of contact for the communal celebration of the Liturgy, Holy Eucharist and presence of God through the Holy Spirit.
- The goal of the Ushers and Greeters at St. Lucy Church is to be focused on welcoming, being hospitable, knowledgeable, accommodating to the assembled and maintaining a graceful sense of order so that each person in the congregation as an opportunity to have a transformative relationship with Christ Jesus, during our Mass.
- Some of the duties for Ushers and Greeters at St. Lucy Church are:
– Arrive 15 minutes early before Mass wearing your name tag
– Dress appropriately for serving in church environment
– Greet and welcome parishioners and visitors
– Give welcome card to those new to the Church
– Select a family to carry offertory gifts for the Communion Procession
– Assist those with special needs / handicap
– Assist with meeting logistical needs for the Mass
– Assist with picking up collections
– Understand and follow emergency plans
– Pass out bulletins at the end of Mass
Meeting Frequency and Meeting Place
- Members of the Usher/Greeter ministry meet twice a year (March and December) to focus on our own spiritual formation as it applies to the Usher/Greeter ministry. We use this opportunity to brush up on fundamentals associated with serving at St. Lucy Church. Training for new members is performed as needed usually either before, after or during the celebration of Mass.
