Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW)

Hello and thank you for your interest in the Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) at St. Lucy’s!
My name is Betsy Portillo and I am a high school religion teacher, St. Lucy’s Parish member, and
mom of three little ones (Diego 6, Marco 3, and Naomi 1). I am excited to be helping with CLOW at
the 9AM mass this year and having the opportunity to break open the Word of God in a kid-friendly
setting!

Our classes will take place in the Activity Center and will involve elements of prayer, story-telling
using Santa Clara University’s “Build, Plant, Grow” program, and art! They are designed for
preschool to early-elementary age children, but if your child is outside that range and interested,
just have them come check it out and we can find them something to do! Please feel free to send
your child forward when invited by the priest and they will return to their seats at the offertory. You
are always welcome to join them as well if you’d like to see what we do!
This year we will also be sending home materials for you to continue to reflect on the weekly
scripture themes. We are asking if you plan on participating in CLOW and you have the means
available, that you donate $25 to cover the cost of these materials and other supplies. You can either
send it with your child to CLOW or drop it in the collection basket marked “CLOW”.
Below is a tentative schedule for CLOW this year, and it will hopefully continue into 2024 so I will
send out more dates as the new year approaches. Thank you and see you on Sundays!

Peace, Betsy
